Job Overview:
The Durable Solutions Expert will play a critical role in supporting IOM South Sudan by providing high-quality technical guidance and overseeing the design and delivery of durable solutions programming. This position requires a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding displacement and the ability to develop integrated and conflict-sensitive approaches to programming.

The expert will be responsible for conducting assessments, facilitating workshops, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure that the needs and aspirations of affected populations are prioritized in the development of durable solutions. The role also involves synthesizing research and analysis on displacement solutions and ensuring community engagement is conducted in a culturally sensitive manner. The expert will work closely with the Transition and Recovery Coordinator and other team members to implement effective strategies that address the challenges faced by displaced communities in South Sudan.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Durable Solutions Expert will undertake a variety of tasks including: providing technical guidance for the development and implementation of durable solutions work; designing and overseeing integration and solutions assessments; supporting the development of workshops and coordination with relevant stakeholders;

conducting qualitative and quantitative assessments to evaluate solutions pathways; ensuring community engagement is context-sensitive; integrating conflict and context analysis into solutions pathways; coordinating with other stakeholders to identify lessons learned; conducting key informant interviews; contributing to the development of tools for project implementation and monitoring; and facilitating workshops and training on durable solutions as needed. The expert will also be responsible for drafting the Juba county Solution Roadmap and facilitating the coordination of the Durable Solutions Working Group (DSWG).

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in humanitarian or development studies, economics, social development, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with five years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a University degree in the aforementioned fields with seven years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. The ideal candidate will have professional experience in durable solutions, research, integrated programming, or displacement-related projects, particularly in fragile or conflict-affected settings. They should demonstrate experience in conducting research and analysis on durable solutions, producing action-oriented analysis with clear recommendations, and working with international organizations, UN agencies, or NGOs in recovery contexts.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in humanitarian or development studies, economics, social development, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, a University degree in the same fields is acceptable, provided the candidate has additional relevant professional experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of displacement and the necessary approaches to develop effective solutions.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically five years of relevant professional experience for candidates with a Master’s degree, or seven years for those with a University degree. Candidates should have professional experience in durable solutions, research, integrated programming, or displacement-related projects, ideally within fragile or conflict-affected settings. Demonstrated experience in conducting research and analysis on durable solutions, as well as producing actionable recommendations on displacement-related issues, is crucial. Proven experience working with international organizations, UN agencies, or NGOs in recovery contexts is also required.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is essential for coordinating with various stakeholders and conducting workshops. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the local context or the communities served by IOM.
